Joe Czerwinski - Tasted: March 2023 "The head-spinning 2019 Harlan Estate is truly amazing stuff. Gentle cedar notes lead into layered dark chocolate and cassis, somehow impossibly rich yet savory. Full-bodied, concentrated and supple, this is dense, packed with flavor but seemingly weightless, with a lush, lingering finish that combines intensity with freshness to compel sip after sip. Like all truly great wines, it's full of somehow harmonious contradictions."

Delicate notes of candied violets, black cherries, some nougat, inviting hint of precious wood, multi-faceted bouquet. Juicy, elegant, ripe, silky tannins, freshly structured, mineral, blackberry confit in the finish, finesse-rich, harmonious style." - Falstaff

It's medium-bodied with a compact palate of intense tannins that melt into the wine. Rather weightless in nature. It kicks in at the end with incredible intensity and focus."- James Suckling

Deep and sumptuous in the glass, it offers tons of the vintage's textural intensity along with all the vibrant, saline energy that is such a signature here. Dark-fleshed fruit, mocha, new leather, herbs and dried flowers build gradually in the glass, leading to a huge, dramatic finish laced with hints of blood orange, pomegranate and chalk. The interplay of finesse and power is dazzling. Tasted two times." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Exhibiting a deep bouquet of blackberries and plums complemented by floral accents of lilac, iris and subtle spices, it's full-bodied, deep and dense, with a brooding core of fruit girdled by bright acids and sweet but abundant tannins. It will rival the 2022, though in vintage signature the two years are very different." - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

On the palate, it's full-bodied, with a pure, layered mouthfeel, intergrated oak, and a great finish. It stays lively, balanced, and remarkbly fresh despite its weight and richness, and I'd happily put this up with the creme de la creme of the vintage." - Jeb Dunnuck

Grand, elegant, complex yet discrete. Ample structure with solid mid-palate concentration filling in, making for impressive architecture. Smooth texture of dark chocolate alike tannins. Dark-toned fruit core with layers of density. Finish with lingering salinity adding some dynamic and lift." – Wine Maniacs - Tasted: May 2021

Pure cassis, graphite, liquid violets, and spicy wood define the aromatics, and it's sensationally pure on the palate, with full-bodied richness, beautiful concentration, ripe, polished tannins, incredible class, and a great finish. It reminds me of the 2016 with its finesse... and maybe there's a touch of 1996 here as well." - Jeb Dunnuck

Harvest began on September 5th, the earliest ever for this estate, wrapping up on the 20th. Cassis, graphite, liquid minerality, and freshly sharpened pencil all define the nose, and it's full-bodied on the palate, with a round, layered mouthfeel, beautiful tannins, and a blockbuster of a finish. The aromas are restrained and creamy with pear fruit & hints of vanilla. The palate is dry, rich & full bodied. The wine has a pungent salinity a rounded texture and a core of Tropical fruit. Ripe pear aromas give way to rich vanilla as the palate opens, Alcohol adds a touch of warmth and roundness, but is balanced by the ripe fruit. The finish is beautifully poised with pure fruit & mineral acidity leaving a distinct lingering sapidity at the end of the finish." - David Allen MW

The medium-bodied palate shimmers with a mesmerizing array of perfumed black and blue fruit, framed by very firm, fine-grained tannins and amazing tension, finishing very long with a firework display of mineral and floral sparks." -Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Palate

Next, it it’s the perfume with its black, blue, and red fruits, incense, curry, flowers, smoke and herbs. Opulent, restrained, elegant and powerful, the wine comes in layers. You can sense the array of exotic spices, mint, blue and black fruits, crushed rocks, black cherries and white pepper on the palate. Full-bodied and dense, the wine somehow remains light on its feet. The end notes, meshing elegance and power bring everything together, as the finish crosses the 60 second mark. This is perhaps even better than the perfect, 2016!" – Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider - Tasted: May 2023
